Cupcakes for Asthma at Work

The Asthma Society of Ireland is seeking the support of school children around Ireland to increase awareness of asthma and support our fundraising efforts for World Asthma Day during the month of May.

This year we are encouraging people throughout the country to bake, buy or sell cupcakes in support of asthma on World Asthma Day. The Asthma Society is asking for schools around Ireland to support us on May 4th, World Asthma Day.  The event could be a cupcake sale, a "cupcake coffee break",  a no uniform day, a bag pack in your local supermarket– the possibilities are endless.

The Asthma Society will provide a fundraising and awareness pack with asthma information, T-Shirts for team leaders, stickers or postcards for donors. If you and your students would like to help us and take part in this urgent appeal please call us on 01 878 8511 to order your fundraising and awareness pack.

Asthma in Ireland - the Facts

Most of us know someone who has asthma but did you know that:

  1. In Ireland, the prevalence of asthma is the 4th highest in the world
  2. Asthma is the most common chronic respiratory disease in Ireland
  3. 22,000 patients need an emergency visit to A&E every year
  4. 5,500 have an asthma attack severe enough to be admitted to hospital
  5. The harsh reality - 1 person dies from asthma in Ireland every week

The Asthma Society is the only provider of independent information and advice for over 470,000 people affected by asthma in Ireland. Our services have a positive impact on the lives of people affected by this chronic condition and we need your help to reduce the burden of asthma on patients and their families.

Funds raised during our "Cupcakes for Asthma" campaign will support:

  1. Asthma Helpline - confidential advice from an asthma nurse specialist
  2. Research to improve asthma management and outcomes
  3. Zero tolerance to Asthma Deaths in Ireland campaign
